October 26, 2021 – Emporia State Volleyball played host to #4 Washburn on Tuesday night from White Auditorium. The Hornets fell 3-0 to the Ichabods.
In the first set, the Hornets started out hot with three straight points. Things would quickly turn against Emporia State as Washburn would rally and take an 11-5 lead over the Hornets. The Ichabods continued their rally on their way to an 18-10 lead and eventually a 25-16 win in the first set.
The second set was a slower start for the Hornets as the Ichabods took an 11-3 lead early. Emporia State played better in the set from this point on but were unable to catch up with Washburn as the Ichabods took the second set 25-16.
Emporia State traded the first few points with Washburn in the third set before the Ichabods opened a 9-3 lead over the Hornets. The Hornets were able to make things difficult on the Ichabods, eventually cutting their lead down to 19-15. The two teams would trade points the remainder of the set before Washburn took the set 25-21, winning the match 3-0 over Emporia State.
Leah Mach led the match with 12 kills and had a .364 hitting percentage on the night.
Ainslee Stepp tallied 22 assists for the Hornets.
Rylie Fornelli led the defense with 21 digs for Emporia State.
The Hornets will travel down I-35 this Friday and Saturday to take on Newman and Central Oklahoma. The match against Newman on Friday is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Wichita.
