October 22, 2021-The #15 Emporia State soccer team outshot Missouri Southern 17-3 in the match but needed two goals in the final 15 minutes to secure a 3-1 win over Missouri Southern on Friday afternoon at the ESU Pitch.

Gaby Crowell got the Hornets on the board with a goal following an
Ashlyn Lakin flip throw in in the 18
th minute.Â

Ella Durocher scored an equalizer with under four minutes left in the first half to send the teams to the break tied at 1-1.

Macenzie Dimarco finally broke the tie in the 76
th minute when she got the ball 75 yards from the goal and ran by the Southern defense to give Emporia State a 2-1 lead. She scored the final goal with under three minutes left when she got the ball at mid-field and again outran the Lion defense. She pulled up from the right side of the goal and sent one towards the left corner that was deflected into goal off a Southern defender.

With the win Emporia State improves to 13-1-1 on the season and sets up a showdown with 8
th ranked Central Missouri on Sunday. Kick-off from the ESU Pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with Senior Day activities scheduled to take place approximately 15 minutes before the match.
