October 17, 2021-The #3 Emporia State women's soccer team got back to their winning ways with a 2-1 victory at Newman on Sunday in Wichita, Kan.

The Hornets got on the board first when
Aislinn Hughes scored in front of the net off a
Joanie Westcoat free kick just under ten minutes into the match. Emporia State would outshoot Newman 13-1 in the opening 45 minutes but took just the 1-0 lead into the break.

Mackenzie Dimarco made it 2-0 just 14 minutes into the second half when
Ashlyn Lakin fed her down the middle of the field and got past the keeper for what turned out to be her Emporia State record 12th career game winning goal.

Newman would cut the lead in half with a goal by Jalyn McClean with 21:10 left for the final score.

Emporia State ended the match with a 20-6 advantage in shot and 13-4 edge in shots on goal. When the Hornets spent 73% of their possession time in the attacking end of the pitch.

Emporia State will return to the ESU Pitch this weekend for their final two regular season home matches. The Hornets play host to Missouri Southern on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before wrapping up the home portion of the schedule against #17 Central Missouri on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Dimarco's game winning goal was the 12th of her 34 game career, breaking a tie with Brandie Booth who had 11 in 70 games from 2002-05.
