October 16, 2021 – Emporia State took on Northwest Missouri Saturday afternoon in Maryville, Missouri. The Hornets fell to the Bearcats 3-0.
The first set started out even between the two teams as it was tied 4-4 early on. Northwest Missouri would take control from this point and open a 17-7 lead over Emporia State. The Hornets would play the Bearcats even the remainder of the set and Northwest Missouri took the first set 25-15.
In the second set, Emporia State took an early 5-3 lead before a 10-3 run by Northwest Missouri gave them a 13-8 lead. The Bearcats continued to improve in the set and went on to take the second set 25-15 over the Hornets.
In the third set, Northwest Missouri gained control from the start and rode the momentum to a 23-6 lead over Emporia State late in the set. After four out of five points by the Hornets, the Bearcats would close out the set 25-10 and take the match 3-0.
Shelby Ebert led the way for the Hornets with 10 kills and a .290 hitting percentage.
Riley Bernskoetter tallied 20 assists and Riley Fornelli had 9 kills in defense for the Hornets.
Emporia State will be back in action Tuesday, October 23
rd as they return to White Auditorium to take on Nebraska-Kearney. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
