BIG WEEKEND
The #3 Hornets are back on the road for a pair of matches. The trip begins with Central Oklahoma on Friday in a match with MIAA and Regional implications followed by a trip to Wichita to take on Newman on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
Fourth ranked Emporia State scored four straight goals to overcome their largest deficit of the season in a 5-3 victory over Northeastern State. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead on Hannah Woolery's goal in the 20th minute.  Northeastern State scored the next three goals to go up 3-1 at the break. Aislinn Hughes made it 3-2 five minutes into the second half and Ashlyn Lakin scored the equalizer in the 67th minute. Joanie Westcoat gave the Hornets the lead for good when she fired a shot from 25 yards out the snuck through the keeper's legs with just under 20 minutes remaining. Mackenzie Dimarco finished the scoring less than ten minutes later for the final score. For the match Emporia State outshot Northeastern State 17-9 with a 12-5 advantage on goal.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 86-72-25 in his tenth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history and seventh winningest coach in MIAA history. He has a career record of 145-95-27 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to eight straight .500 or better regular seasons, four straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He is 2-4-3 against Central Oklahoma and 1-0-1 against Newman.
Mike Cook is 331-122-34 in his 24th season at UCO and 419-144-35 in 29 years as a head coach. He is 6-2-3 against Emporia State.
Jay Holmes is 1-8-1 in his first full season at Newman. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 11-0-1, 5-0-0 in the MIAA and ranked #3 in the nation. They are leading the MIAA in scoring and rank second in defense. Mackenzie Dimarco leads the MIAA in both points and goals.

ABOUT CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos are 8-3-1, 4-1-0 in the MIAA. They are third in the league in scoring with Monika McGee leading the MIAA in game winning goals and ranked third in goals scored.

SERIES HISTORY
Central Oklahoma leads the all-time series 6-2-3 but the teams are an even 2-2-1 over the last five matches with each team scoring six goals.

LAST TIME VS. THE BRONCHOS
Emporia State soccer started Homecoming weekend 2019 with a 1-0 win over Central Oklahoma. Mackenzie Dimarco converted a rebound off a UCO defender in the 37th minute and Jillian Patton recorded her fourth shutout of the year.

ABOUT NEWMAN
The Jets are 1-8-1, 1-4-0 in the MIAA. They are ranked 11th in the MIAA in goals for and against.

SERIES HISTORY
The series is tied 2-2-1 although they have only met twice since 2007.

LAST TIME VS. JETS
Emporia State saw their home winning streak come to an end at 14 matches but extended their home unbeaten streak to 15 with a 1-1 tie against Newman on October 20, 2019 at the ESU Pitch.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will return to the ESU Pitch for their final two regular season home matches starting with Missouri Southern on October 22.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Emporia State players have earned seven MIAA Soccer Athlete of the Week awards this season.
Joanie Westcoat has twice been named the Defender of the Week, first on September 14 and most recently on October 12.
Mackenzie Dimarco has picked up two Offensive Player of the Week awards, first on September 14 and again on September 28.
Ashlyn Lakin was named the MIAA Defender of the Week on September 21.
Hannah Woolery was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week on September 21
Jillian Patton earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors on September 28.

RECORD BOOK
Since 2018 Emporia State has set seven individual school records and moved into the top five in three other categories.  Hornets have also set four individual career records.
Mackenzie Dimarco holds Emporia State single season records for points, points per game, goals, goals per game, game winning goals, shots attempted, and shots per game.  She is the career record holder for game winning goals, shots and shots on goal.
Jillian Patton has the Emporia State career record for wins in goal.

THE MARC
Forward Mackenzie Dimarco (Soph./Pleasant Hill, Mo.) is leading the MIAA in goals, points and shots this season. She had her second career hat trick against Neb.-Kearney on the way to the second of her two MIAA Offensive Player of the Week awards.
She was the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Central Region selection in 2019.  She had a school record 18 goals and 40 points scored on her way to MIAA Freshman of the Year honors as well.  The 18 goals rank fourth and her 40 points rank tenth on the MIAA single season list. She also has the Emporia State single season records for points per game, goals per game, shots attempted and shots per game as well as the career mark for game winning goals, shots and shots on goal.
She is a two-time MIAA Offensive Player of the Week this season and earned the honor one time during her record setting freshman campaign.

FLIPPING OUT
Defender Ashlyn Lakin (Jr./Wichita, Kan.)  is fourth in the MIAA in assists this season with four, all on flip throw ins. She scored her first career goal against Rogers State.
She earned second-team All-MIAA and All-Central Region honors as a sophomore in 2018 before sitting out the 2019 season with a knee injury.
She was named MIAA Defender of the Week on September 21 of this season.

WARM COAT
Defender Joanie Westcoat (Soph./Lee's Summit, Mo.) is second in the MIAA in assists with five, most of which have come off corner kicks. She has three goals on the season.
She has been named MIAA Defender of the Week twice this season.

WOOLY BULLY
Midfielder Hannah Woolery (Soph./Overbrook, Kan.) is fourth in the MIAA in points, goals and total assists this season. She has two multiple goal games this season, most recently scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory over Washburn.
She was an honorable mention All-MIAA performer as a freshman in 2019.
She was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week on September 21 following her two goal effort against the Ichabods.

PATTON PENDING
Keeper Jillian Patton (Jr./Olathe, Kan.) is second in the MIAA in goals against average and is fourth with three shutouts on the season.  
She was a second-team All-MIAA selection as a freshman in 2018.
She was named the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week on September 28 after posting 135 minutes without allowing a goal including the first half against Neb.-Kearney and a full shutout of Fort Hays State.

ALL-MIAA HONORS
In addition to the already mentioned athletes, three other current Hornets have earned All-MIAA honors in their career. Sydney Martens (Jr./Wichita, Kan.) was an honorable mention All-MIAA defender as a freshman in 2018 before earning third-team honors as a sophomore in 2019. Kailey Corr (Grad./Wichita, Kan.) was named honorable mention All-MIAA on defense and Aislinn Hughes (Jr./McPherson,Kan.) earned honorable mention honors at midfield in 2019.
