HORNET VOLLEYBALL SWEPT BY BRONCHOS

Emporia State falls 3-0 to Central Oklahoma

October 1, 2021 – The Hornets played their first of two home matches this weekend against Central Oklahoma. ESU fell 3-0 to the Bronchos on Friday evening at White Auditorium.

In the first set, the Hornets came out with energy and made things difficult for the Bronchos. Emporia State's biggest lead in the set came after a UCO error that gave the Hornets a 14-10 advantage. ESU held the lead as late as 18-17 in the set before the Bronchos found their way in front. After gaining the lead, UCO would not relinquish it and eventually took the first set 25-21.

In the second set, Emporia State started out strong yet again, often trading points with Central Oklahoma. The Hornets trailed the Bronchos 9-8 and were unable to tie the set up after this point with UCO going on a 16-6 run to take the second set 25-14.

The third set started with UCO taking the early lead and the two teams trading points for much of the set. Eventually the Bronchos would open a 21-14 lead and despite the Hornets fighting back to close the lead to 24-21, UCO would get the final point to clinch the set and the match.

Leah Mach and Orianna Clements led the way in attack for the Hornets with nine and eight kills respectively. Riley Bernskoetter tallied 28 assists for the Hornets. Rylie Fornelli and Shelby Ebert both reached 20 digs on the evening.

The Hornets will be back in action Saturday evening against Newman. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. from White Auditorium.
