October 2, 2021 – Emporia State took on Newman Saturday evening from White Auditorium. The Jets took the match 3-0 over the Hornets.
A slow start for Emporia State in the first set saw Newman take the first four points for their biggest lead of the set. Despite this, the Hornets were able to fight back and eventually take a 15-14 lead. The Jets would eventually reclaim the lead and the Hornets were made to fend off five set points before Newman eventually took the set 29-27.
In the second set, the Hornets struggled, and the Jets jumped out to a 12-3 lead and eventually their biggest lead of the set, 19-9. Emporia State was able to fight back to trim the Newman lead to 24-19 before the Jets finished off the set to win 25-19.
In the third set, Newman took control early and opened another early lead with an 8-3 advantage over Emporia State. Their momentum continued as they took their biggest lead of the night with a 21-9 advantage over the Hornets. The Jets took the set 25-13 to clinch the 3-0 victory over the Hornets.
Orianna Clements led the way with 10 kills in attack for the Hornets.
Riley Bernskoetter contributed 23 assists.
Rylie Fornelli and
Shelby Ebert led the defense for Emporia State with 21 and 17 digs respectively.
The Hornets will be back in action Friday, October 8
th to take on Pittsburg State. The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from White Auditorium.
