February 23, 2020-Emporia State capped off a 3-1 weekend at their own 5-State Classic with a dramatic come from behind win over Minnesota State in extra innings on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets won 4-3 on
Cassidy Beem's two run homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Hannah Steeby gave Emporia State a 2-0 lead with a no doubt about it home run to left in the third inning that plated
Maddy Broxterman. The Mavericks got on the board in the top of the fourth when Emma Schifferle double with one out and came home on Torey Richards single. They would tie the game in the top of the fourth when Kayla Moky led off with a single, stole second and came home on Hailey Forshee's two out single to left.

The teams went to the international tie breaker to start the eighth with Forshee placed on second base for the Mavericks. After a sac bunt moved her to third Schifferle hit a line drive to right and
Maddy Broxterman got the ball back in quickly to save a run. Hannah McCarville then hit a grounder down the line at third that
Destiny Ojigoh fielded, but Forshee collided with her knocking the ball away. Forshee would score on the play to give Minnesota State a 3-2 lead.

Emma Broxterman was placed on second to start the bottom of the eighth for the Hornets and
Jenna Spence sacrificed her to third. After getting ahead 2-0, Beem would foul off three straight pitches before depositing the game winning walk off home run beyond the fence in left field.

Kerrigan Dixon went the distance in the circle for Emporia State, scattering 11 hits over 8.0 inning with no walks and three strikeouts while allowing three runs, two of them earned. Beem was two for four with two RBI and a run scored on the home run while Steeby went one for two with two RBI and a run on her home run.

Emporia State, now 8-5 on the season, will return to action on Friday when they travel to Topeka to take part in the Washburn Invitational.
