February 21, 2020-Emporia State got an extra inning walk off win in their final game of the day to wrap up Friday's action at the 5-State Classic at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Hornets won 7-6 over Minn.-Duluth in eight innings after falling 2-0 to Maryville (Mo.) in their first game.

The Saints got a pair of runs in the third inning that would hold up in thanks in part to a Hornet error in a 2-0 win over Emporia State. After a leadoff single, Maryville's Emily Frankenreiter laid down and sac bunt that was mishandled resulting in runners at first and second. After a successful sacrifice moved the runners over, Jaclyn Pasakarnis laced a single to center to plate both runners. They would eventually load the bases with one out but
Abbey Ward gunned down a runner at the plate from shortstop and the Hornets got a pop out to second to leave the bases loaded.
That was enough run support for Saints starter Alyssa Callans who tossed a four hit shutout. Emporia State's
Sydney Righi nearly matched her, giving up two runs, one of them earned, of just five hits.
Emporia State 7, Minn.-Duluth 6
The Hornets trailed 6-1 with just nine outs to go before rallying for 7-6 walk-off win over Minn.-Duluth.
A hit batter started the Hornets comeback in the fifth inning.
Josie Harrison was hit by a pitch and went to second on a wild pitch.
Cassidy Beem then doubled her home before scoring herself on a
Maddy Broxterman single.
Emporia State still trailed 6-3 going to the bottom of the seventh. Broxterman reached on an error to lead off theinning and went to second on Ward's infield single. After a ground out advanced the runners
Jenna Spence hit a grounder to third and the Bulldogs third basemen threw it way, allowing Broxterman to score.
Emma Broxterman pinch ran for Spence and stole second. With runners on second and third
Hannah Steeby laced a single to center to tie the game.
The game went to the international tiebreaker in the eighth and Makenna Burslie was placed on second to start the inning. After an infield pop-up, Lauren Oberle hit a grounder to Ward at short who threw to first for the second out and Rachel Kaus alertly threw back to third to get Burslie trying to advance to complete the double play and keep the game tied. In the bottom of the frame
Brittanie Shepherd was placed on second and sacrificed to third by Harrison. Beem then launched a sac fly to deep right field that scored Shepherd and gave the Hornets the 7-6 win.
Beem and Steeby both went one for three with two RBI. Harrison pitched the final 4.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit.
The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday as they are scheduled to take on the University of Sioux Falls at 5:00 p.m. in the last of five games on Turnbull Field for the day. Action is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. with Northwest Missouri taking on Concordia-St. Paul.
