LADY HORNETS ROLL TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN, 84-60 AT NORTHEASTERN STATE

February 15, 2020-The Lady Hornets led all 40 minutes on the way to an 84-60 victory at Northeastern State to win their fifth straight game.
 
Emporia State led 1-0 before the game started thanks to an administrative technical on the RiverHawks for an incorrect entry in the scorebook. The Lady Hornets went on to score the first seven points in 36 seconds thanks to back to back three-pointers by Mollie Mounsey and Tre'Zure Jobe.  Northeastern State closed to within three at 9-6 with 6:52 left before Emporia State went on a 13-4 run to go up by 12 points with 2:02 left in the quarter.
 
A Zaria Collins layup pulled the RiverHawks within eight points at 29-21 with 6:29 left in the half.  The Lady Hornets answered with a 12-1 run to go 41-22 with 3:20 left and the last five points coming from Karsen Schultz. A 5-0 mini-run from NSU put the deficit at 14 points but Emporia State scored nine of the last 11 points of the half to take a 50-29 lead to the locker rooms.
 
Morgan Laudan hit a three-pointer to open the third quarter but Cenia Hayes hit back to back three-pointers for the RiverHawks and forced a Lady Hornet timeout with 8:43 left in the period. A Morgan Hellyer bucket pulled NSU within 53-37 with 7:21 left before Emporia State went on a 10-2 run to go up 63-39 with 3:14 remaining in the period.  The lead would not drop below 20 points the rest of the afternoon.
 
Jessica Wayne scored the first five Lady Hornet points in the fourth quarter to give Emporia State their largest lead of the game at 77-47 with 8:38 left before settling for the 84-60 victory.
 
Mollie Mounsey led Emporia State with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Morgan Laudan just missed having a double-double as well with 18 points and nine rebounds.  Karsen Schultz joined them in double figures with 13 points.
 
Emporia State will continue their four game road trip as they head to Wichita on Thursday, February 20 to take on Newman.  Tip-off in Fugate Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
