September 27, 2019-Emporia State picked up another road win with a 2-0 victory at Neb.-Kearney on Friday night. With the win, the Hornets finish the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 5-2 record with six of the seven matches coming on the road.
Â
The first 43 minutes were scoreless until
Aislinn Hughes found the back of the net with just over three minutes left in the half. She was able to score off assists from
Denaya Evans and
Sydney Martens after the ball was loose in the scoring box following a corner kick.
Â
Kennedy Hoffman gave Emporia State a 2-0 lead in the 63
rd minute when she scored off a rebound in front of the goal.
Â
That was more than enough for the Hornet defense as Lopers only had two shots on the night compared to 18 shots with 14 on goal for Emporia State.
Jillian Patton recorded her third shut out of the season facing just two shots on goal.
Â
The Hornets will begin MIAA play on Sunday when they travel to Fort Hays State. This will be a rematch of last week's 4-2 Emporia State win in non-conference action.
