EMPORIA STATE SOCCER GETS 4-2 WIN OVER FORT HAYS STATE

Hornets pull away on wet pitch

September 20, 2019-Playing on a wet pitch, Emporia State got a season high four goals on the way to a 4-2 victory over Fort Hays State on Friday afternoon. It is the tenth straight home win for the Hornets.
 
The Tigers got on the board first thanks to a Nikita Woods goal in the tenth minute.  Gabby Crowell scored the equalizer in the 20th minute as the score remained tied going into the half.
 
Crowell put the Hornets on top with her second goal of the game off an assist from Mackenzie DiMarco 21 minutes into the second half.  Joanie Westcoat gave Emporia State a two goal advantage in the 79th minute when her free kick from the left side found the back of the goal.
 
Fort Hays State pulled back within a goal on Taryn Schnell's goal in the 81st minute.  Four minutes later Hannah Woolery put Emporia State back up by two goals when she scored off a rebound in front of the net following a Hornet corner.
 
Crowell scored a career high two goals for the Hornets including the second game winner of her career. Westcoat and Wollery picked up their first goals of the season.  DiMarco dished her second assist of the year. Jillian Patton went the distance goal for the Hornets facing 11 shots on the afternoon, however the Emporia State defense only allowed three shots on goal in the match.
 
Emporia State will travel to Topeka, Kan. on Sunday for the first edition of the Turnpike Tussle this year.  Kick-off at Washburn's Yaeger Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m.
