Mackenzie Dimarco scored the game tying and then the game winning golden goal in Emporia State's 2-1 victory at Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions took an early 1-0 lead when Jocelyn McDonough scored 14:58 into the first half. That lead would hold until the 60
th minute. Dimarco would take a pass
Aislinn Hughes and took a shot from just outside the penalty area that snuck by the Lion keeper in the lower left corner of the goal.

The Hornets would get six more shots in the final 30 minutes compared to two for TAMU-Commerce but neither team could find the net as the match went to overtime.

Emporia State dominated the extra frame outshooting Commerce 5-1 in the first five minutes. With 4:20 left in the extra frame,
Tanna Benefiel got a loose ball at around midfield and took it down the left side. She fed ahead to Dimarco at the top of the penalty box. Dimarco started to go right across the front of the goal and then kicked it back left past the keeper with 4:05 left to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead.

Emporia State outshot TAMU-Commerce 18-13 on the day while the Lions had a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. Dimarco had her first multi goal game of her young career and has now scored four goals in her last three games. Hughes and Benefiel each recorded their first assists of the season.

Emporia State will play their home opener on Friday, September 20 against Fort Hays State. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m. on the ESU Pitch.
