THE EYES OF TEXAS
Emporia State continues their season opening road swing with two matches in the Lone Star State. The Hornets take on Midwestern State on Friday and TAMU-Commerce on Sunday.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 63-69-21 in his ninth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He has a career record of 122-92-23 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to five straight .500 or better regular seasons, three straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. This is his first meeting with Midwestern State and he is 0-1-0 against TAMU-Commerce.
Ryan Spence is 3-14-3 in his second season at Midwestern State and 8-23-9 in his third year as a head coach. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.
Neil Piper is 239-127-39 in his 22nd season at TAMU-Commerce. He is 1-0-0 against Emporia State.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST YEAR
The Hornets finished the 2018 season with the best record in program history at 14-6-1. They hosted their first ever post-season match and advanced to the MIAA Tournament semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Northeastern State. Emporia State capped the season with the Hornets first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history.

Emporia State was picked to finish fourth in this year's MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 1-1-0 on the season.  The lost a heartbreaker 4-3 in double overtime to Rockhurst in the season opener and then defeated Lindenwood 1-0 last weekend in St. Joseph, Mo. Four different Hornets have scored on the season. Mackenzie Dimarco had the game winner against Lindenwood added an assist against Rockhurst to lead the Hornets in scoring. Tanna Benefiel, Kennedy Hoffman and Aislinn Hughes have the other goals while Hannah Woolery had two assists against Rockhurst. Jillian Patton has spent the entire season in goal. She had a shutout against Lindenwood and has a 1.85 goals against average.

SCOUTING MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs are 1-1-0 this year following a 2-13-3 season a year ago. They dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at New Mexico Highlands in their opener and then scored a 3-1 win at Fort Lewis.

SCOUTING TAMU-COMMERCE
The Lions are1-0-1 on the season after going 9-8-0 last year. They opened with a scoreless tie at Westminster (Utah) and had three players each score one goal in a 3-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma. They have a match against Ouachita Baptist on Thursday.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will make their home debut on Friday, September 20 against Ft. Hays State in anon-conference match-up. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. on the ESU Pitch.
