August 13, 2019-The Emporia State cross country team will spend part of their preseason training schedule in the wild as they spend two nights at Lake Melvern this week.
 
The Hornets reported to town on Monday and will take part in compliance meetings on Tuesday before officially starting practie on Wednesday. After starting the day with a 6:30 a.m. run at Welch Stadium the team will depart for two nights of training at Lake Melvern. In addition to daily runs, the team will camp out in tents, do some swimming, take part in team building and work on mental skills during their time at the lake.

They will return to Emporia by 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 16 to help the freshman and new students move in.

After running on their own on Saturday and Sunday, the Hornets will begin daily 6:00 a.m. team workouts on Monday, August 19 which is also the first day of classes for Emporia State.

The entire Emporia State Athetic Department will be taking part in a HornetFest youth sports clinic on Wednesday, August 28 at 6:00 p.m. in Welch Stadium.

The Hornets will host an Alumni Run on Sunday, August 25 at Jones Park at 9:00 a.m. The Hornets open the regular season on September 7 at the Wichita State JK Gold Classic.  The only home action of the season will be on Friday, September 27 when Jones Park plays host to the ESU Invitational.
