April 13, 2019-In a classic pitcher's duel Pittsburg State scored an unearned run for a 1-0 win over Emporia State to even the series at a game each. The rubber game will be played at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.

Emporia State's Jake Barton and Pitt State's Alex Achtermann combined to put up zero's through the first four innings. With one out in the top of the fifth Greyson Pinkett walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs Clint Allen hit a grounder to first that bounced off Lou Pener's glove into foul territory and allowed Pinkett to score from second for the only run of the game.

Barton gave up one unearned run on five hits in 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts. Drew Scrimsher went the final two innings and only gave up one hit.

Cooper Minnick was two for four for the Hornets while Brian Grove, Aaron Dees and Mitch Sloan each had a hit as Achtermann went the distance for the Gorillas, allowing only five hits with nine strikeouts.

The two teams will meet in the deciding game of the series on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. on Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.

NOTES
It is the first 1-0 game Emporia State has been involved in since a 1-0 win over Lindenwood on April 26, 2014.
It is the first 1-0 loss for Emporia State since falling to Central Oklahoma on April 6, 2012.
