EMPORIA STATE TENNIS SPLITS ACTION WITH WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY

Women win, men fall to #7 ranked team in NAIA

March 12, 2019-Emporia State tennis went on the road and split duals at William Woods on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hornet women won 4-2 while the men fell 6-0 in Fulton, Mo.  The teams played singles first to try and avoid inclement weather in the area.
 
The Hornet women picked up four wins in singles play and a win at doubles to secure their third straight win.  Silvana Caceres won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles and Cyrielle Peyroche got a 6-0, 6-1 win at #4 singles.  Karen Santiago at #5 and Shannen Meyer at #6 both got straight set shutout wins 6-0, 6-0. Meyer and Caceres teamed up to take an 8-0 win at #3 doubles while the other doubles matches were unfinished.
 
Lukas Winkler and Andy Graf delivered the only victory for the Hornets, 8-6 at #3 doubles, against the seventh ranked team in NAIA.
 
Both the Emporia State men and women will continue their spring break with a pair of matches against Maryville University on Friday at the Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo. First serve is set for 1:45 p.m.
