February 22, 2019- Emporia State Baseball fell 9-1, 18-1 to Central Missouri in both games of the double header in Warrensburg, Mo. The Mules recorded 26 hits throughout the double header and saw 12 different Hornet pitchers.

Game One
After exchanging outs in the first inning, the Mules got on the board first with three runs on two hits and two Hornet errors in the top of the second. The Mules would hold on to their 3-0 lead through the third inning before extending it to 4-0 with one run in top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Hornets got their first hit of the game before leaving one runner stranded at second base.

The two teams exchanged outs and the Hornets had left a runner on base in the fifth before the Mules extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning with three runs on two hits.

The Hornets got on the board in their half of the sixth as Tucker Perkins got on base and advanced to second on a dropped fly. Cooper Minnick got a bunt single to third base and advanced to second as Perkins made it to third. Mitch Sloan was walked to load the bases with one out. With the bases loaded, Connor Hurst was walked to bring Perkins home for the Hornets only run in the game as the Hornets trailed 7-1 after six.

The Mules capped off scoring with one run on one hit in both the eighth and ninth innings to take the 9-1 win in the first game of the double header.

Jake Barton started on the mound for the Hornets pitching 3.1 innings and allowing four runs with one K before being replaced by Trey Taylor. Taylor pitched 0.2 innings facing just two batters. Drew Repp relieved Taylor and pitched 2.0 innings allowing three runs before being replaced by Connor Burns. Burns pitched 2.0 innings with one K and one run allowed. Adam Thies pitched the final inning for the Hornets allowing one run with one K.

Game Two
The Mules got on the board early with four runs on four hits in the top of the first. The Mules had two doubles and two singles in the inning before retiring the first two Hornet batters and catching Connor Hurst stealing after a walk.

After sitting batters down in order in the top of the second, the Hornets had two runners reach base as Aaron Dees was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a balk. Tucker Perkins was walked before the pair were stranded to end the inning.

In the top of the third inning, the Mules sparked three back-to-back multiple run innings as they scored three runs on four hits in the third. Central Missouri added four runs in the fourth capped off with a two-run home run before the final out was recorded. The Mules extended their lead to 18-0 in the top of the fifth with seven runs on four hits and three Hornet errors.

The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the seventh with one run on two hits. With one out, Aaron Dees walked and stole second. Tucker Perkins brought Dees home with an rbi single through the right side. Paul Claassen singled to right field before the final out to end the game.

The Hornets had seven different pitchers in the game led off by Hayden Schaeffer to start the game and take the loss. Schaeffer pitched 2.0 innings allowing seven runs on six hits with two K's.

The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 26 as they travel to Oklahoma City, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Christian in a mid-week match-up.
