LADY HORNETS KNOCK OFF #5 FORT HAYS STATE 73-69

Tre'Zure Jobe scores career high 25 points for ESU

December 7, 2019-The Lady Hornets got a career high 25 points from Tre'Zure Jobe in a 73-69 win over #5 Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.  With the win Emporia State improves to 31-12 against Top 25 teams all-time in White Auditorium.
 
The Tigers came out and took a 8-2 lead two minutes into the game and led 19-10 with 2:00 left in the first period.  The Lady Hornets ended the period on an 8-1 run of their own to pull within 19-18 after the first ten minutes.
 
Emporia State scored the first five points of the second quarter to extend the run to 13-1 and took a 23-20 lead on Jessica Wayne's three pointer 45 seconds into the period.  Taylor Rolfs answered for the Tigers to tie the game at 23 before the Lady Hornets went on an 11-2 run to go up 34-25 with 2:50 left in the half. The teams traded buckets until Madison Mittie hit a three at the end of the half to pull FHSU within 38-32 at the break.
 
Jalyn Harris hit an elbow jumper with 8:00 left in the third to put the Lady Hornets up 40-35.  The Tigers then went on a 10-0 run over the next four and a half minutes as Jaden Hobbs three pointer gave FHSU a 45-40 lead with 3:29 left in the quarter. Jobe scored a quick five points on a jumper in the paint and a fast break three-pointer to tie the game at 45 with 2:39 left.  Seven of the next nine points came from the free throw line as Fort Hays State took a 50-49 lead to the fourth quarter.
 
Hobbs hit a free throw with 5:41 left to give Fort Hays State a 58-57 lead.  The Lady Hornets would then hold the Tigers scoreless for the next 4:55 as they went on a 9-0 run.  Four different players scored during the run for Emporia State and Jobe's jumper in the paint gave the Lady Hornets a 66-58 lead with 46 seconds left.   Emporia State hit five of six free throws in the final 20.6 seconds to seal the 73-69 victory.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe scored a career high 25 points on eight of 13 shooting and added four steals. She was joined in double figures by Mollie Mounsey with 12 points. 
 
The Lady Hornets have one more home game before leaving for the semester break.  They will play host to Bethany on Monday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.
