December 16, 2019-Five Lady Hornets reached double figures and all nine players that suited up scored at least four points in #23 Emporia State's 87-50 win over Bethany on Monday night in White Auditorium.

The Lady Hornets led 12-4 with 3:10 left in the first quarter on a
Grace Gordon three-pointer and would take a 14-9 lead into the second period.Â

Emporia State then used a 25-12 second quarter, taking advantage of ten Swede turnovers in the period, to take a 39-21 lead into the half. The Lady Hornets scored the first 11 points of the quarter getting seven of the points off turnovers to go up 25-9 with 6:52 left on a
Mollie Mounsey three-pointer. Bethany used an 8-1 run of their own to get the deficit back to single digits at 26-17 with 4:02 left in the half. Emporia State finished the half on 13-4 run capped by Mounsey's buzzer beating three-pointer to make it 39-21 at the break.

The third quarter was even with Emporia State outscoring Bethany 19-18 to take a 58-39 lead into the final period.
Tre'Zure Jobe hit a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter that jump started a 14-0 run that lasted into the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets went up 30 with 7:30 left in the game. After trading three-pointers Emporia State used a 15-3 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 87-48 on
Laura Garcia Laffitte's layup with 1:25 left.

Mollie Mounsey and
Tre'Zure Jobe each scored 14 points to lead Emporia State while
Morgan Laudan had 13 with
Kali Martin and
Fredricka Sheats each scored 11 points. Jobe led the Lady Hornets with six assists and five steals while
Laura Garcia Laffitte had a team high seven rebounds. Â

Emporia State will now take the NCAA Division II mandated "Life in the Balance" winter break before returning to action against Missouri Valley College on January 1. Tip-off from White Auditorium in the first game of 2020 is set for 5:30 p.m.

NOTES:
It took a snow storm on a Monday night of winter break with the residence halls closed against an NAIA team but the Lady Hornets string of 296 straight games with at least 1000 fans was snapped with an announced attendance of 871. The string ran began on January 2, 1999.
