December 2, 2019-Lady Hornet
Jessica Wayne earned MIAA Player of the Week honors after recording Emporia State's first triple double in nearly two decades.
Â
Wayne had 18 points, 11 rebounds and a school record 11 steals in the Lady Hornets 60-52 non-conference win over Washburn on Black Friday. It was the first triple double in the MIAA since Fort Hays State's Kate Lehman (31 points, 10 rebounds, 11 blocks) against Kansas Wesleyan on December 16, 2014 and the first by a Lady Hornet since Jamie Blakely had 11 points, 11 rebounds and ten assists against Northwest Missouri on January 31, 2001. Her 11 steals broke Emily Bloss' Emporia State record of ten set against Fort Hays State on December 2, 1999.
Â
Wayne also had eight steals and seven points in just 21 minutes in the Lady Hornets 114-42 win over Bethel last Monday night.
Â
The Lady Hornets begin MIAA play on Thursday when they play host to Neb.-Kearney. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.
