LADY HORNETS COMEFROM BEHIND TO POST 62-59 WIN OVER HENDERSON STATE

Wayne with 18 points, Harris double-double of 10 pts and 13 rebounds.

November 9, 2019-The Lady Hornets overcame a seven point halftime deficit on the way to a 62-59 victory over Henderson State on the second day of the Big Red Stores Classic in Searcy, Ark.
 
Emporia State trailed 18-15 after the first quarter and trailed 33-23 with 2:45 left in the first half.  The Lady Hornets ended the half on a 4-1 run to pull within 34-27 at the break.
 
Emporia State came out strong in the second half, scoring the first five points to pull within 34-32 on an old fashioned three-point play by Morgan Laudan with 7:29 left in the third.  Jessica Wayne scored six points during an 8-0 run as the Lady Hornets took a 42-38 lead with 3:31 left in the third quarter. Emporia State would score the final six points of the period and take a 48-41 lead into the fourth.
 
Jalyn Harris scored inside 13 seconds into the fourth quarter to give the Lady Hornets their largest lead at 50-41. The Reddies closed to within a point at 55-54 with 2:59 left before Emporia State seniors scored five straight on a layup by Laudan and old fashioned three-point play from Wayne to take a 60-54 lead with 1:27 left.  Hailey Estes hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds left to cut the lead to three. Wayne hit one of two free throws to push it back to a two possession game with 18 seconds left. After a Henderson State timeout Lexis Weber scored inside to cut the lead to 61-59 with 15 seconds remaining.  Mollie Mounsey hit one of two free throws with 12 seconds left to put the Lady Hornets up 62-59 and the Reddies were not able to get a shot off.
 
Jessica Wayne led Emporia State with 18 points and four steals.  She was joined in double figures by Morgan Laudan with 13 points and six rebounds while Jalyn Harris scored ten points with 13 rebounds for her first career double-double.
 
The Lady Hornets will make their White Auditorium debut on Thursday, November 14 against Northwestern Oklahoma.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
