LADY HORNETS FALL AT HARDING IN SEASON OPENER

Emporia State outscored 75-62 on the road

November 8, 2019-The Lady Hornets forced 27 turnovers but only hit six of 28 three-pointers in a 75-62 loss at Harding to open the 2019-20 season in Searcy, Ark.
 
Emporia State led 14-8 on a Kali Martin jumper with 2:31 left in the first quarter before Harding closed the period on a 7-2 run to pull with a point going to the second quarter.
 
The teams traded buckets to start the second quarter with the Lady Hornets leading 20-19 with 8:06 left. The Bisons then went on a 9-1 run to take a 28-21 lead with 5:19 left in the half.  After the Lady Hornets broke the run, the lead would stay between three and six points the rest of the half with Harding taking a 36-31 lead into the half.
 
The Lady Hornets came out of the locker rooms on a 7-1 run to take a 38-71 lead on Tre'Zure Jobe's steal and fast break layup with 7:58 left in the third.  Emporia State led 43-41 when Harding went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good.  An old fashioned three-point play by Jalyn Harris pulled the Lady Hornets within 52-46 with 2:45 left in the quarter.  The Bisons then scored the final six points of the period to take a 58-46 lead into the fourth.
 
The Harding lead reached 17 points midway through the fourth before the Hornets went on a 7-0 run to pull within 68-58 with 4:54 left on a pair of Jessica Wayne free throws.  Neither team would score over the next almost two minutes until Amanda Kearney hit a three-pointer with 3:10 left to put the Bisons up 71-58. The teams would trade scores the rest of the way as Harding took the 75-62 victory.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe ledEmporia State with a career high 21 points and four steals.  Jessica Wayne added15 points and three steals while Mollie Mounsey had 11 points and four rebounds.
 
The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Saturday afternoon against Henderson State on the second day of the Big Red Stores Classic in Searcy, Ark.  Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. in Rhodes-Reaves Fieldhouse.
