GOLDEN GOAL GIVES EMPORIA STATE SOCCER OT WIN OVER NEB.-KEARNEY

Freshman Mackenzie Dimarco scores in 95th minute for the Hornets.

November 3, 2019-Emporia State outshot Neb.-Kearney 19-2 with a 9-0 advantage on goal but it took Mackenzie Dimarco's school record breaking 18th goal of the season to give the Hornets a 1-0 victory in the first overtime on Sunday afternoon at the ESU Pitch.  With the win the Hornets secured home pitch advantage in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on November 8.

The Hornets dominated the both halves with a 6-1 advantage on shots in the first 45 minutes and a whopping 12-1 edge in the second half.  Emporia State also had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks during regulation.  The Lopers keeper Emily Thuss saved eight shots in regulation including seven in the second half.

Dimarco scored the golden goal in the 95th minute when she got by a Loper defender and her shot from the right side of the goal was able to get past the keeper on the ground for the 1-0 win.  The freshman from Pleasant Hill, Mo. now has a league leading 18 goals with eight game winners this season. She is currently ranked fourth on the MIAA single season list and is just two goals away from tying UCM's Jada Scott's league record of 20 goals in 23 games set in 2018.

Emporia State has secured the third seed in the MIAA Tournament (by virtue of their regular season sweep of Fort Hays State) and should play host to Northwest Missouri in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Friday, November 8 at the ESU Pitch.
