October 9, 2019-The conference coaches and media have Emporia State ranked fifth in the MIAA Preseason Women's Basketball Polls released today. It is the lowest Emporia State has been picked in the MIAA since being picked fifth to start the 1996-97 season. The Lady Hornets have finished in the top three of the MIAA or advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game 19 of the past 22 seasons.
The Lady Hornets finished the season 22-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 20th time in the last 23 seasons. They graduated six players off last year's team, but are set to return four players that started at least one game last year including MIAA Defensive Player of the Year
Jessica Wayne.
The Lady Hornets open the exhibition season on October 27 against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. and then play the University of Kansas on November 3 in Lawrence, Kan. They will begin the regular season on November 8 at Harding in a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Central Regional Championship Game.
