EMPORIA STATE SOCCER SHUTS OUT NORTHWEST MISSOURI 4-0

Hornets off to best start in school history after ten matches

October 6, 2019-Emporia State blanked Northwest Missouri 4-0 to improve to 8-2-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the MIAA.  It is the best record after ten games in Hornet soccer history.

Emporia State had to overcome some adversity in the match as starting goal keeper Jillian Patton was injured and had to leave the match in the 19th minute with no score.  Tori Bailey, who has been nursing an injury of her own over the last four matches, came in and played the remainder of the match.

Hannah Woolery broke the scoreless tie in the 27th minute with her second goal of the season.  It would remain 1-0 until Mackenzie Dimarco scored with just 1:32 left in the half to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead at the break.

Dimarco scored her tenth goal of the year in the 64th minute when she deflected a shot off a Bearcat player into the upper corner of the net for a 3-0 lead.  Daniela Cardona capped the scoring with her second goal of the year in the 80th minute as the Hornets reached four goals for the second straight game and third time in three home matches.

The offensive explosion was aided by a defense that only allowed three shots by Northwest Missouri compared to 24 shots by Emporia State.

Emporia State, who has now won 13 straight home matches, will head to Oklahoma for a pair of matches next weekend.  They will take on Rogers State for the first time in school history on Friday night in Claremore, Okla.  Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at Soldier Field.

NOTES
Mackenzie Dimarco becomes the first Hornet since Amelie Heun (12g) in 2015 to score ten goals in a season.
Mackenzie Dimarco is just the third Hornet to have at least ten goals in a season, joining Brandi Booth (17g in 2004) and Amelie Heun (12g in 2015.
Emporia State's 13 match home pitch winning streak is the longest active streak in the MIAA and sixth longest active streak in the nation.
