#14 EMPORIA STATE SOCCER PICKS UP ROAD TIE AT ROGERS STATE

Hornets hold on for 1-1 road draw against Hillcats

October 11, 2019-Playing their first match as a national ranked team, #14 Emporia State outshot Rogers State 27-19 with an 18-6 advantage on goal in a 1-1 tie on Friday night in Claremore, Okla.

The teams were scoreless in the first half although the Hornets took 11 shots and had four corner kicks compared to three shots and one corner by the Hillcats.

Emporia State finally broke through in the 58th minute when Mackenzie Dimarco was awarded a penalty kick.  Her first shot was blocked by Rogers State keeper ReVella Fisher and Dimarco was able to put the rebound in the back of the net for a 1-0 Emporia State lead.

The Hillcats got the equalizer in the 66th minute on a penalty kick of their own.  Alex Wynn was able to beat Hornet keeper Tori Bailey, who was making her first career start in place of the injured Jillian Patton, to even the score at 1-1.

Dimarco had a chance at the game winner with 30 seconds left in regulation but her shot was deflected off the corner of the goal to send the match to overtime.

Emporia State had three shots in each of the overtime periods with four of them on goal compared to just one shot by Rogers State, but they could not find the net as they tied for the first time this year.

The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Northeastern State in a rematch of last year's MIAA Tournament first round match.  Kick-off in Tahlequah, Okla. is set for 1:00 p.m.

NOTES
Mackenzie Dimarco moved into a tie for second with Amelie Heuhn for second on the Emporia State single season goals scored list with 12.
This was the second straight tie of a nationally ranked team by Rogers State, who played then #7 Central Missouri to a 0-0 tie on October 6 in Claremore.
