EMPORIA STATE SOCCER ROLLS TO 5-1 WIN OVER MISSOURI WESTERN

Hornets have now won 12 straight home matches

October 4, 2019-Despite a constant rain, Emporia State scored the most goals in a game since 2016 as they defeated Missouri Western 5-1 on Friday afternoon at the ESU Pitch.

Mackenzie Dimarco recorded the first hat trick by a Hornet in 15 years to lead the Emporia State offensive attack.  She got things started quickly scoring just 1:12 into the match and gave the Hornets a two goal advantage in the 23rd minute.

Dimarco scored again quickly to start the second half, scoring just 26 seconds after intermission.   The Griffons finally got on the board in the 60th minute on a goal by MaKenzie Billings.

Daniela Cardona answered for the Hornets in the 77th minute on a goal off an assist from Hannah Woolery.  Gaby Crowell put Emporia State up 5-1 just 75 seconds later when she scored off another Woolery assist.

The Hornets dominated much of the match getting 27 shots with 13 on goal compared to just three shots, two of them on goal, for the Griffons.

Emporia State will be back in action on Sunday, October 6 when they play host to Northwest Missouri.  Kick-off from the ESU Pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.

NOTES
Mackenzie Dimarco's hat trick was the first by a Hornet since Brandie Booth scored three against Southwest Minnesota State on September 4, 2004 in Emporia.
The Hornets five goals were the most they had scored in a match since a 5-1 win over UC-Colorado Springs on September 11, 2016 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Emporia State has now won 12 straight home matches, the longest active home pitch winning streak in the MIAA and the sixth longest active home winning streak in the nation.
