COUNTER AND NON-COUNTER
Emporia State returns to the friendly confines of the ESU Pitch for the first full weekend of MIAA action as they take on Missouri Western on Friday and Northwest Missouri on Sunday.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 68-70-21 in his ninth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He has a career record of 127-93-23 that includes coaching four years at the community college level. He has led the Hornets to five straight .500 or better regular seasons, three straight MIAA Tournaments and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.  He is 3-6-0 against Missouri Western and 4-5-0 against Northwest Missouri.
Chad Edwards is 73-72-8 in his ninth season at Missouri Western. He is 6-3-0 against Emporia State.
Marc Gordon is 4-20-1 in his second season at Northwest Missouri and 117-58-16 in his tenth year as a head coach. He is 0-1-0 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 6-2-0, 1-0-0 in the MIAA and have played seven of their eight matches on the road. They will finish the season with six of ten matches at home where they have won 11 straight matches. Seven Hornets have scored on the season with five players having multiple goals. Mackenzie Dimarco has six goals and two assists and her three game winning goals rank third in the nation. Gabby Crowell has two goals and two assists while Aislinn Hughes and Tanna Benefiel each have two goals, an assist and a game winner. Kennedy Hoffman is the fifth player with two goals on the year Jillian Patton is third in the MIAA and ranked 12th in the nation in saves. She has three shutouts and has a 1.25 goals against average.

SCOUTING MISSOURI WESTERN
The Griffons are 3-4-1, 0-1-0 in the MIAA. They have scored six goals in eight matches. Ashley Mathis and Taylor Schwartzkopf each have two goals. Anna Mayer has a 1.22 goals against average and has started all eight matches.

SERIES HISTORY
Missouri Western leads the all-time series 10-8-3. The Hornets have not defeated the Griffons in Emporia since a 1-0 win on Sept.18, 2008 - a span of six matches. MWSU was the last team to beat ESU at home on Oct. 22, 2017.

LAST TIME VS. THE GRIFFONS
In a back and forth match, the Hornets came from down 2-1 to take a 3-2 lead but the Griffons scored with less than a minute left in regulation then won the match on a PK in the 97th minute.

SCOUTING NORTHWEST MISSOURI
The Bearcats are 2-5-1, 0-1-0 in the MIAA. They have given up 20 goals while scoring 13 in eight matches. Kaitlyn Case has scored four goals while coming off the bench in seven matches.

SERIES HISTORY
Northwest Missouri leads the series 16-11-2 but Emporia State has won four of the last five meetings.

LAST TIME VS. THE BEARCATS
Emporia State scored three goals in a six minute stretch of the second half to defeat Northwest Missouri 3-0.  
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State travels to Oklahoma next weekend for matches against Rogers State and Northeastern State. The Hornets first match with the Hillcats will be on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6:00 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
