October 18, 2019-Emporia State soccer started Homecoming weekend with a 1-0 win over Central Oklahoma on a windswept ESU Pitch on Friday afternoon.

The Hornets had the wind at their backs for the first half and took advantage with a 10-5 advantage in shots. The Hornets finally broke through in the 37
th minute when
Mackenzie Dimarco converted a rebound off a Broncho defender for her 14
th goal of the year. Both teams had two more shots on goal the rest of the half with
Jillian Patton getting a save with 37 seconds left to send the Hornets to the break with a 1-0 lead.

Central Oklahoma had the wind in the second half and outshot Emporia State 7-2 in the final 45 minutes. The Hornet defense was able to fight off a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks by the Bronchos including three straight in less than a minute midway through the period.

Patton, who missed the last two and a half games with an injury, recorded six saves on the way to her fourth individual shutout of the season - against the team that is leading the MIAA in scoring. Dimarco's goal was her 14
th of the year and fifth game winner of the season.

The Hornets are back in action on Sunday, October 20 when they take on Newman. Kick-off against the top defensive team in the MIAA is set for 2:00 p.m.

NOTES:
This was Emporia State's first win against Central Oklahoma in Emporia.
The Hornets have now won 14 straight home matches, the longest active streak in the MIAA and is tied for the fifth longest active streak in the nation.
