January 9, 2019-After being plagued by poor third quarters in their last few games, the Lady Hornets scored the first 12 points of the second half to take control in a 54-41 win at Northwest Missouri on Wednesday night.

Both teams struggled in the first half and the game was tied at 11 after the first quarter. Emporia State got back to back layups from Daley Handy to take a 15-11 lead with 8:04 left for the biggest lead of the half. Emporia State led 21-17 with 1:44 left before the Bearcats scored the final three points to make it a one point game at the half.

The Lady Hornets came out on fire to start the second half, scoring the first 12 points of the third period. When Tatum Graves hit her second straight bucket with 5:22 left Emporia State had a 33-20 lead. The margin would reach 14 points at 37-23 when Emily Miller scored inside. That would be the last points for Emporia State in the third as the Bearcats scored the final five points to make it 37-28 going to the fourth quarter.

Jessica Wayne hit a three-pointer to start the fourth and Addie Lackey hit a jumper in the lane to push the lead back to 14 at 42-28 with 8:16 left in the game. Emporia State would maintain a double digit lead the rest of the game with Jessica Wayne's three-pointer with 2:07 left being the final points of the game.

Jessica Wayne had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Addie Lackey was the only other player in double figures with ten points. Morgan Laudan scored eight points and pulled 11 rebounds.

The Lady Hornets will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. on Saturday to take on Missouri Western. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
