January 13, 2019-In a game that had ten ties and 13 lead changes the Lady Hornets were the victim of the last lead change when Missouri Western's Melia Richardson scored with 0.8 seconds left to give the Griffons a 68-66 victory in St. Joseph, Mo. on Sunday afternoon.

Emporia State was just one of nine from the field in the first quarter and turned the ball over seven times, yet only trailed Western 11-9 after ten minutes.

The Lady Hornets used a 7-2 run to open the second quarter and took a 16-13 lead on Jessica Wayne's three-pointer with 8:32 left in the half. The Griffons responded with a 10-2 run to go up 23-18 with 4:57 left in the half. Emporia State scored the final three points of the half on a free throw from Tiana Moala and jumper in the paint by Tyra Jones to trail 27-26 at the break.

Back to back three-pointers by Addie Lackey and Emily Miller gave the Lady Hornets a 37-34 lead with 4:59 left in the third. Western answered with a 9-0 run of their own to take a 43-37 lead with 1:40 left in the quarter and led 45-40 headed into the fourth.

The Griffons stretched their lead to seven at 52-45 with 7:33 left in the game. The Lady Hornets then went on an 11-2 run and took a 56-54 lead with 4:29 remaining. There were three ties and five lead changes over the final four minutes. Morgan Laudan hit a three pointer with 1:35 left to give Emporia State a 64-61 lead. Katrina Roenfeldt scored inside with 34.1 seconds left to give MWSU a 65-64 lead. With the ball out of bounds on the side, the Lady Hornets turned the ball over with 32 seconds left. Roenfeldt hit one of two free throws with 28.2 left to give Western a 66-64 lead. Jessica Wayne tied the game for the Lady Hornets with 20.3 seconds left. Melia Richardson hit a jumper with 0.8 left to give the Griffons the 68-66 win.

Jessica Wayne led Emporia State with 19 points and eight rebounds. Addie Lackey added 16 points, Tyra Jones had 12 points and nine rebounds while Morgan Laudan added ten points.

Emporia State is back in action on Wednesday, January 16 when #4 Ft. Hays State comes to White Auditorium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
