EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN STRAIGHT SETS TO #13 CENTRAL MISSOURI ON THE ROAD

Hornets fall 30-28, 28-26, 25-13

September 21, 2018- Emporia State fell to #13 Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. on Friday. The Hornets forced the #13 Jennies into extra points in each of the first two sets of the match.

The first set of the match saw 12 ties and six lead changes as the Hornets and Jennies battled back and forth. After being tied at 15-15, the Jennies took a two point lead that they would hold until the Hornets went on a 3-0 run to tie the set at 23-23. From this point there were two lead changes and five ties as the Hornets forced the #13 Jennies to play extra points to take the set 30-28.

Set two was another battle for the two teams with 12 tie scores for the second straight set and seven lead changes. Late in the set, the Hornets had the lead at 18-16 before the Jennies went on a four point run to lead 20-18. The Hornets answered with a three point run to regain the lead at 21-20. From this score there were six ties and four lead changes before the Jennies took set two 28-26 over the Hornets.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Hornets were unable to regain momentum in the third set of the match. The #13 Jennies jumped out to an early 7-1 lead and would not let the Hornets back within three points the remainder of the set as they went to take set three 25-13.

The Hornets were led by Taylor Otting with her third double-double of the season of 11 kills and 18 digs. Allie Maloney had a team high 22 digs while Emma Dixon led the Hornets with 22 assists.

The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. as they travel to St. Charles, Mo. to take on Lindenwood.
