September 2, 2018- Emporia State Soccer defeated Ouachita Baptist 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets are now 8-1-1 since joining the field at the MIAA/GAC Challenge five years ago.
The first 25 minutes of the match was a defensive battle between the two teams with only four shots by each team. The Hornets took the lead 1-0 in the 27th minute when Kennedy Hoffman sent a cross from the right side to Jacki Martinek for her first goal of the season. Later in the first half the Hornets extended their lead to 2-0 over the Tigers when Emily Goodrow sent a cross from Gaby Crowell into the back of the net in the 42nd minute of the match. This would prove to be the final goal of the match as the Hornets held on through the remainder of the match to win 2-0 over the Tigers.
The Hornets were led by Jacki Martinek and Emily Goodrow each with one goal in the match. Kennedy Hoffman and Gaby Crowell each had one assist for the Hornets.
Emporia State Soccer will be back in action on Friday, Semptember 7 as they take on Missouri S&T in St. Charles, Mo.
