September 14, 2018- Emporia State Soccer came to a 1-1 draw with Fort Hays State in non-conference MIAA action Friday. This is the Hornets first match tie of the 2018 season to improve to 3-1-1 on the season.
The Hornets out-shot the Tigers 12-8 in the match while each team took four corner kicks. In the scoreless first half, the Hornets took five shots to just one from the Tigers. In the 75th minute of the match, Shelby Keyes took a steal from a clearing attempt to give the Hornets the 1-0 lead. In the 83rd minute, the Tigers Olympia Katsouridis made a header goal to equalize the match at 1-1. The Hornets were on the attack in the first overtime taking two shots to the Tigers zero. In the second overtime the Tigers out-shot the Hornets 2-0 with neither team gaining the upper hand in the overtime periods to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
The Hornets were led by Shelby Keyes with her first goal of the season. Jillian Patton played the full 110:00 minutes in goal for the Hornets with one save in the match.
The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday, September 16 as they take on Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle in Emporia, Kansas at the ESU Pitch.
