EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO 1-3 AT LADY BUFFS CLASSIC

Hornets go 0-2 on day two

August 25, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball fell 3-0 to West Texas A&M in their third game of the Lady Buffs Classic in Canyon, TX. In the fourth game of the tournament the Hornets fell 3-2 to Adams State.

In set one the Hornets jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and held the lead until the Lady Buffs were able to tie the game at 16-16. The Lady Buffs took control of the set from there to take the lead 1-0 in the match with a 25-21 set win. In set two the Hornets held the lead through the majority of the set before the Lady Buffs used a 13-3 run to take a 21-20 lead. The Lady Buffs took the set 27-25 over the Hornets to gain a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set three was a close battle through the entire set with neither team able to gain more than a three point lead. The Hornets fought through three match points before the Lady Buffs were able to take the set 27-25 and the match victory 3-0 over the Hornets.

The Hornets were led by Tatum Graves with 11 kills, a hitting percentage of .280 and three blocks followed by Jamie Hauptman with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .288. Valerie Golder added seven kills with a hitting percentage of .462. Allie Maloney led the Hornets with 19 digs while Emma Dixon had a double-double for the Hornets with 29 assists and 15 digs.

Adams State
The Hornets took control of the match with two close wins in the first two sets. In set one the Hornets trailed for only eight points before taking the 25-23 win over the Grizzlies. There were five ties in set two before the Hornets took control of the set on their way to a 25-21 win to extend their lead in the match to 2-0.

In set three the Grizzlies battled back to cut the Hornets lead to 2-1 with a 25-18 win. The Grizzlies continued their run to tie the match at 2-2 with a 25-20 win in set four before finishing the match with a 15-8 victory in the final set.

The Hornets were led by Tatum Graves with 12 kills followed by Taylor Otting with 11. Emma Dixon led the Hornets with 25 assists in the match while Allie Maloney led with 12 digs.
