April 5, 2018- Emporia State tennis teams fell on Thursday to Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle. The Hornet women's team fell 9-0 while the men fell 7-2.
The women's teams faced off first with the Hornets taking on the regionally #9 ranked Ichabods. The Hornets started the match down 1-0 after being forced to forfeit #3 doubles as they played with only four players. Kaley Clark and Sarah Durham fell 8-1 to Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey in #1 doubles while Silvana Caceres and Shannen Meyer fell 8-4 to Ally Burr and Jacqueli Engelbrecht in #2 doubles.
In singles play Kaley Clark fell 6-3, 6-2 to Alexis Czapinski in #1 singles while Sarah Durham fell 6-1, 6-0 to Jacqueli Engelbrecht in #2 singles. Silvana Caceres fell to Logan Morrissey 6-4, 6-3 in #3 singles and Shannen Meyer fell 6-1, 6-3 to Madison Lysaught in #4 singles. Washburn won the final two singles matches by way of forfeit.
The Hornet women will be back in action Tuesday April 10 as they take on Northwest Missouri in Emporia, Kan.
The regionally #9 ranked Hornet men took on the nationally ranked #43 and #3 ranked in the region Ichabods. In doubles play Oliver Dixon and Anton Levanovich fell 8-2 to Blake Hunter and Aleja Valarezo Plaza in #1 doubles. In #2 doubles Taylor Nelson and Janne Jacobi fell 8-4 to Raul-Alin Dicu and Tommy Hunter while Lukas Winkler and Patrick Cameron fell 8-3 to Chase Brill and Paul Haase.
In singles play, Janne Jacobi fell 6-1, 6-3 to Aleja Valarezo Plaza in #1 singles while Charles Gortzounian defeated Paul Haase 7-6(7-4), 7-6(7-4) in #2 singles. In #3 singles Oliver Dixon fell 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(7-5) to Blake Hunter while Matheus Mota fell 6-1, 6-4 to Raul-Alin Dicu in #4 singles. Taylor Nelson fell 5-7, 6-1, 14-12 to Brad Eidenmueller in #5 singles while Patrick Cameron defeated Chase Brill 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 in #6 singles.
The Hornet men will be back in action on Tuesday April 10 as they take on Northwest Missouri in Emporia, Kan.
