March 15, 2018- Emporia State women's tennis fell 4-5 to Missouri Western Thursday. The Hornets went 2-1 in doubles and 2-4 in singles.
The Hornets started the match down 1-0 falling by forfeit in #3 doubles but quickly gained the 2-1 lead as Kaley Clark and Sarah Durham won #1 doubles 8-4 and Silvi Caceres and Shannen Meyer won #2 double 8-4.
Starting singles play with a 2-1 lead despite only having four players in the match the Hornets were forced to forfeit singles #5 and #6 to trail 3-2. The Griffons extended their lead to 5-2 when Sofia Aguilera won singles #4 6-1, 6-3 over Shannen Meyer and Karolina Strom defeated Kaley Clark 6-0, 6-2 in singles #1. The Hornets finished the day with two wins as Sarah Durham defeated Joanna Abrev Roman 6-4, 7-5 in singles #2 and Silvi Caceres defeated Federica Salmaso 7-5, 6-4 in singles #3.
The Hornets will be back in action March 17 as they travel to Kearney Nebraska to take on the Lopers of Nebraska Kearney.
