LADY HORNETS GET 53 POINT EXHIBITION WIN OVER BETHEL

Four players in double figures for Emporia State

November 5, 2018-The Lady Hornets had four players in double figures and forced 37 turnovers in an 89-36 exhibition win over Bethel on Monday night at Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium.

Emporia State jumped out to an 8-0 lead and led 13-2 midway through the first quarter before settling for 21-7 lead at the end of the period.  Seven different players scored in the opening ten minutes for the Lady Hornets. 

The second quarter was even better for Emporia State as they outscored the visiting Threshers, who are 4-0 on the regular season already, 24-8 in the period to take a 45-15 lead to the locker rooms.

The Lady Hornets used a 22-10 advantage in the third period to lead 67-25 headed into the final ten minutes.  The lead would reach 54 points in the fourth quarter before the final margin settled in at 53.

Tyra Jones had 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks to lead four Lady Hornets in double figures.  Emily Miller and Addie Lackey had 14 and 13 points respectively and combined to go seven of 12 from behind the three point line.  Tre'Zure Jobe was the other Lady Hornet in double figures finishing with 11 points, four assists and five steals.

As a team Emporia State hit 11 of 30 three-pointers and had 23 steals.

Emporia State will open the season for real on Friday, November 9 when they take on #20 Southwestern Oklahoma in the MIAA-GAC Challenge. Tip-off in Shawnee, Okla. is set for 5:30 p.m.
