#24 LADY HORNETS GRIND OUT 72-60 WIN OVER NORTHERN STATE

Addie Lackey with season high 23 points for Emporia State

November 24, 2018-The #24 Lady Hornets held Northern State to just .386 shooting from the field in a 72-60 Emporia State win on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.  Addie Lackey led the Lady Hornets with the second most points in her career.

The Wolves jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the midway point of the first quarter and led 14-7 with 3:05 left in the period. The Lady Hornets closed the quarter on a 9-2 run and tied the score on a Morgan Laudan three-pointer as time expired.

Tiana Moala scored the first six points of the second quarter for Emporia State and Lackey added the final four in a 10-4 run that gave the Lady Hornets a 26-20 lead with 7:02 left in the half. Kali Martin hit five points and Tatum Graves scored in the paint to give Emporia State a double digit lead at 33-22 with 4:23 left in the half.  The teams played event the rest of the way and Lackey's fast break three-pointer gave the Lady Hornets a 43-32 lead at the break.

Emporia State's lead would reach 14 points twice in the third quarter, the last time coming at 57-43 on Lackey's third three-pointer of the game with 57 seconds left in the period.  Northern State ended the quarter on a 4-0 run and extended it to a 7-0 run with three free throws to start the fourth quarter.

Jessica Wayne got a steal and fast break layup to break the streak with 8:36 left in the fourth quarter.  Another free throw from Sara Tvedt and a three-pointer by Brianna Kusler pulled Northern State to within 59-54 with 5:54 remaining.  Martin gave the Lady Hornets some breathing room with a three-pointer with 4:49 left to make it 62-54.  The Wolves pulled back within six on a couple of Anika Fredrick free throws with 2:50 left when Martin buried her third three-pointer of the night to give Emporia State a 67-58 lead. The Lady Hornets then hit five of six free throws in the final 43 seconds to ice the win.

Addie Lackey scored 23 points on nine of 11 shooting with a three of five effort from beyond the arc to lead four Lady Hornets in double figures.  Jessica Wayne had 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals off the bench.  They were joined in double figures by Kali Martin with 13 points and Tiana Moala with ten points.  Tyra Jones had a team high ten rebounds for Emporia State.

The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Saturday, December 1 when they play host to Newman.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium.

NOTES
With her 23 points Addie Lackey moved past Sheri Moore (1,159 pts from 1988-92) and Andrea Leiker (1,171 pts from 2005-09) for 21st in Lady Hornet career scoring.  She now has 1,179 points and is 39 points away from tying Rachel Hanf (1,218 pts from 2009-13) for 20th on the Lady Hornet career list.
