November 10, 2018- The Emporia State Lady Hornets defeated Oklahoma Baptist 87-62 on Saturday in Shawnee, Okla. The Lady Hornets open the season 2-0 in the MIAA/GAC Challenge after also winning over #20 Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday.

In the first period, the Lady Hornets out-shot the Bison 20-12 and led 24-12. Emporia State shot 45% from the field, 37.5% from three and 60% from the free-throw line in the quarter.

The Lady Hornets pushed their lead to 46-16 with a 22-4 second quarter over the Bison. Emporia State shot 6-13 for 46.2% from the field in the quarter. They wend 4-7, 57.1% from three and 6-7 from the free-throw line in the quarter while holding the Bison to just 2-14 shooting.

The Bison fought back in the third quarter to outscore the Lady Hornets 30-22. The Lady Hornets shot 8-18 for 44.4% from the field in the quarter while the Bison shot 10-13. Emporia State led 68-45 after three quarters.

Emporia State outscored Oklahoma Baptist 19-17 in the fourth quarter to take the 87-62 win. The Lady Hornets shot 5-13 in the final quarter, 3-9 from beyond the arc.

In the game, the Lady Hornets shot 26-64 for 43.8% shooting from the field. They went 12-29, 41.4% from beyond the arc and 20-29, 69% from the line. Emporia State held Oklahoma Baptist to 26.3 shooting from three despite their 49% field goal percentage.

The Lady Hornets were led by Tyra Jones with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jessica Wayne joined her in double-digits with 19 points followed by Addie Lackey with 17 and Emily Miller with 16. Kali Martin led the Lady Hornets with seven assists while Miller added four.

The Lady Hornets will be back in action on Thursday, November 15 as they travel to Alva, Okla. to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State.
