October 9, 2018-The conference coaches have Emporia State ranked third and the media have the Lady Hornets fourth in the MIAA Preseason Women's Basketball Polls released today.The Lady Hornets have finished in the top three of the MIAA or advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game 19 of the past 21 seasons.
After sitting out last year with a knee injury All-MIAA selection Addie Lackey will go into her senior year ranked 25th in career scoring with 1,114 points and eighth with 156 career three-pointers at Emporia State. The MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2014-15, Lackey averaged 12.9 points per game in 2016-17.
Fellow senior Kyrstie Miller, who also missed last year, is tenth in Lady Hornet history with 95 career blocks. She was fifth in the MIAA in 2016-17 in blocked shots, sixth in steals and ninth in offensive rebounding while averaging 9.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Senior Tyra Jones was ranked fifth in the league in offensive rebounds and tenth in overall rebounding last season. She averaged 16.9 points and 9.6 rebounds in the 14 games in which she played more than 20 minutes
The Lady Hornets open the exhibition season on November 5 against Bethel in White Auditorium. They will begin the regular season on November 9 against Southwestern Oklahoma in Shawnee, Okla.
