October 5, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball took 3-0 win over Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo on Friday. The Hornets took an early lead over the Bearcats and carried their momentum through all three sets.
In the first set, the Hornets were trailing 6-4 but used a 5-0 run sparked by a Bearcat service error to take the 9-6 lead. The Hornets would not allow the Bearcats back within two points for the remainder of the set on their way to a 25-17 set win.
The Hornets never trailed in set two with just two early tie scores in the set. Emporia State held their largest lead of the set at 17-12 before the Bearcats came back within one point at 19-18. The Hornets took set two 25-23 to extend their match lead to 2-0.
Again in set three, the Hornets never trailed after taking the first two points of the set. Emporia State extended their set lead to 11-5 early and would not allow the Bearcats within four points for the remainder of the match. The Hornets took set three 25-16 for finish the match with a 3-0 win in straight sets.
The Hornets were led by Tatum Graves with a match high 14 kills on .737 hitting percentage followed by Jordan Evans with nine kills and Taylor Otting and Mikayla Simons with seven each. Emma Dixon led the Hornets with 15 assists followed closely by Jennica Smith with 14 while Jordan Evans led all players with 17 digs followed by Allie Maloney with 12.
The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
