Emporia State advances to the MIAA Tournament semi-final round for the second time in program history. The Hornets face off against Central Missouri on Friday, November 2 in Edmond, Okla.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 62-66-21 in his eighth year at Emporia State and is the winningest coach in program history. He has a career record of 121-89-23 that includes coaching four years at the community college level.
Lewis Theobald is in his 12th season as the head coach of the women's soccer team at Central Missouri.
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State defeated Northeastern State 2-1 in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. The Hornets got on the board first in the 12:08 into the match when Kennedy Hoffman scored on an assist from a corner kick by Maria Walden with a header deflection from Tanna Benefiel. In the 26th minute, Northeastern State tied the match at 1-1 when Paulina Chavez scored on an assist from Mariah Nicolet. The Hornets would cap the scoring in the first half with just 2:36 left on the clock when Olivia Miller sent a corner kick into the box and Gaby Crowell drove the ball into the net. The Hornets took a 2-1 lead into the half. Crowell's late first half goal would prove to be the game winner as the two teams played even in the second half. Ten shots were taken in the second half with no goals as the Hornets defense held on to the one goal lead. The Hornets outshot the RiverHawks 6-4 in the period and 14-6 overall with a 6-3 advantage on goal.

The Hornets finished as the #3 seed to start the MIAA Tournament and have outshot opponents 298-195 this season with a 127-88 advantage of shots on goal with a 38-18 score total. LAST TIME AGAINST THE JENNIES
In the last meeting, Emporia State defeated the Jennies 3-1 at the ESU Pitch. The Jennies scored just 31 seconds into the match, but the Hornets would not allow another goal. Nearly 15 minutes later, Jacki Martinek tied the match with a goal on an assist from Ashlyn Lakin. Kennedy Hoffman gave the Hornets the lead just 1:41 later when she sent a rebound shot into the back of the net. The Hornets held the 2-1 lead into the half. In the 56th minute, Hoffman extended the Hornets lead when she took a pass from Maria Walden to score her second goal of the match and give the Hornets the 3-1 lead.
