Kennedy Hoffman and Rachel Marshall score goals in win

October 26, 2018-Emporia State improved to 12-4-1 and 7-3 in the MIAA with a 2-0 win over Washburn on Friday night at Yager Stadium in Topeka to sweep the Turnpike Tussle regular season series.

Kennedy Hoffman got the Hornets on the board with a goal in the 35th minutes as McKayla Brady redirected a cross from Sydney Martens to go up 1-0. 

Emporia State maintained the one goal lead until the 67th minute as Rachel Marshall converted a penalty kick.  She scored the goal on a second chance when Washburn's Jenna Shortridge was ruled to have encroached on the box during the first attempt at the PK.

The goal for Hoffman was her fourth of the season and her third game winner while Marshall recorded her team leading seventh goal of the season.  Jillian Patton posted her sixth shutout of the season, facing seven shots and recording two saves.

Emporia State will wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they take on Neb.-Kearney.With a win the Hornets will secure home field advantage in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.  Kick-off from Kearney, Neb. is set for 1:00 p.m.
