October 28, 2018-Emporia State rolled into the MIAA Tournament with a 3-0 win at Neb.-Kearney on Sunday. With the win, the Hornets secured home field advantage in the first round of the MIAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Emporia State is now 13-4-2 on the season and finished MIAA play with an 8-3 record.

Kennedy Hoffman got the Hornets on the board with a goal by Kennedy Hoffman in the 22
nd minute. She put the ball in the net with a rebound shot off a free kick from Ashlyn Lakin.Â

Seven minutes later Gaby Crowell scored in a break away situation of an assist from Hoffman to go up 2-0.

The final goal came with 7:25 left in the match when Jacki Martinek scored unassisted off the left wing from 15 yards out.

For the match Emporia State outshot Neb.-Kearney 16-6 with a 10-6 advantage on goal. The Hornets took ten corner kicks while not allowing the Lopers any corner attacks.

Jillian Patton recorded her seventh shutout of the season and second straight. She has allowed a goal since the first minute of the UCM game, a scoreless string of 269:28.

Emporia State will play host to Northeastern State in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Wednesday, October 31 at the ESU Pitch. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Halloween.
