October 16, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball fell 3-1 to #11 Washburn on Tuesday in White Auditorium. The Hornets forced just the 13th extra set against the Ichabods this season and nearly pushed them to their first five set match.
The Hornets kept the first set close to a score of 5-5 before the Ichabods used a 6-0 run to take the 10-5 lead. The Hornets fought back and were able to bring the Ichabods lead down to 12-11 but could not regain the lead as the Ichabods finished the set 25-17 to take a 1-0 match lead.
Set two was a back and forth battle to a tie at 9-9 before the Ichabods used a 3-0 run to take the lead at 11-9. The Hornets were unable to regain the lead as the Ichabods pushed their lead from 16-13 to 23-13 with a 7-0 run en route to a 25-14 set two win. The Ichabods took a 2-0 match lead into the break.
Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Hornets fought to keep set three close and held a 7-6 lead before the Ichabods took the lead 11-7 with a 5-0 run that forced a Hornet timeout. Out of the timeout, the Hornets sparked a 8-0 run that started with two kills from Jordan Evans to regain the lead at 15-11. The Hornets extended their lead to 21-13 with another 6-1 run to before the Ichabods fought their way back into the set with three 3-1 runs to get within 24-23. Emporia State's Aliyah Bernard finished the set with a kill to cut the Ichabods match lead to 2-1.
The Ichabods jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in set four and held their lead throughout the set. The Hornets fought back bringing the score within one point six times before tying the set at 21-21. The Hornets forced two more tie scores at 22-22 and 23-23 before the Ichabods finished the set 25-23 to take the 3-1 match win.
The Hornets were led by Jordan Evans, Taylor Otting and Emma Dixon who each recorded a double-double. Evans recorded 12 kills and 24 digs while Otting had 12 kills and 20 digs and Dixon had 30 assists and 10 digs. Jamie Hauptman joined them in double digit kills with ten. Allie Maloney led all players with 28 digs and Tatum Graves led all players with nine total blocks while Evans recorded five.
The Hornets will be back in action on Friday, October 19 as they travel to Kearney Nebraska to take on #2 Nebraska Kearney.
