EMPORIA STATE SOCCER TAKES #11 CENTRAL OKLAHOMA TO THE WIRE WITH LATE GOAL

Hornets fall 2-1 to Bronchos

October 12, 2018- Emporia State Soccer fell 2-1 to #11 Central Oklahoma on Friday in Edmond, Okla. The Hornets scored just the third goal of the season against the undefeated Bronchos.

The Bronchos came out of the gates on the attack taking the first seven shots of the match. On their seventh shot, Camille Greer scored on an assist from Kelsie Eason to give Central Oklahoma the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. The Hornets took their first shot of the match in the 25th minute when Tanna Benefiel sent a shot that stayed wide of the goal. In the 27th minute, Central Oklahoma's Katie Killion scored a breakaway goal for her 18th goal of the season to extend the Bronchos lead to 2-0 over the Hornets. The Bronchos would hold on to their 2-0 lead into the half.

The Hornets came out of the half as the aggressor, taking the first shot of the half in the 47th minute when Maria Walden sent a shot high over the goal. The Hornets closed the gap in the 76th minute when McKayla Brady scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Maria Walden to bring the Hornets within 2-1. The Hornets were unable to capitalize on the momentum from the goal as the Bronchos held on for the 2-1 win.

The Hornets were out-shot 21-6 in the match, and were awarded just three corner kicks to the Bronchos 11. The Hornets also had 16 fouls and one yellow card to the team while the Bronchos had 12 fouls and Katie Killion and Madison Motil each received yellow cards in the match.

McKayla Brady led the Hornets with two shots taken and one goal scored. Maria Walden had the lone assist in the match for the Hornets. In goal, Jillian Patton recorded 11 saves as she faced 21 shots in the match.

The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Talequah, Okla. to take on Northeastern State.
