GOLDEN GOAL KEEPS EMPORIA STATE SOCCER UNDEFEATED ON SEASON

Kennedy Hoffman scores four minutes into first OT for the Hornets

September 8, 2017-Kennedy Hoffman scored a golden goal 3:35 into the first overtime to give Emporia State a 1-0 victory at Minot State and remain undefeated after three matches.  Bethany Reeves picked up her second shutout in three matches this season.

Neither team could find the back of the net during regulation.  The Beavers outshot the Hornets 7-3 in the first half with a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal, however Emporia State had two corner kicks to just one by Minot State in the first 45 minutes.  The second half was more of the same as Reeves faced 11 shots with four on goal while the Hornets were only credited with seven shots, with three of them on goal.  Emporia State did have a 3-1 advantage on corners after the intermission.

Hoffman scored her second goal of the season on the only shot of the extra frame. She took a pass from Maria Walden from the right side and put her shot inside the right post as the Hornets improved to 3-0 on the season with two wins against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.

Emporia State will conclude their trip to the north on Sunday when they take on Augustana (SD) in Minot, ND.  Kick-off is set for 11:00 a.m.
