September 3, 2017-Emporia State gave up their first goal of the season in the first half, but answered quickly in a 2-1 win over Ouachita Baptist in their final match at the MIAA-GAC Challenge in St. Joseph, Mo. on Sunday.
Brianna Lozano but the Tigers on the board with a goal in the 20th minute to give OBU a 1-0 lead. Olivia Miller got the equalizer nine minutes later off a corner kick on a header from Leah Mettam. With 2:18 left in the half Kennedy Hoffman scored what would be the game winner on a header from Sammy Boese. Neither team would score in the second half, although Emporia State outshot OBU 9-2 and have five corner kicks to none in the final 45 minutes.
Other than the first period goal, the Hornet defense shut down the Tigers, allowing just seven shots and only three on goal in the match.
Emporia State will head north next weekend to take part in the Minot State Classic. The Hornets will play the host Beavers on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and will take on Augustana (SD) at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
